A sway bar does not push the left front tire down when entering a left-turn; it actually tries to lift the left front tire during initial entry because the car rolls to the right.
Why the Sway Bar Lifts the Left Front
As the car enters the turn, centrifugal force pushes the chassis to the right. The right side of the car compresses, and the left side tries to rise (body roll). The sway bar (anti-roll bar) resists this twist. As the right side goes down, the bar pulls the left front suspension upward, unloading or lifting the left front tire.
When Does the Left Front Go Down?
The left front tire only gets forced down later in the corner or under specific setup conditions:
- Corner Exit / Acceleration: When you get back on the throttle, weight transfers backward to the rear tires. The front end rises, unloading the right front and letting the left front settle back down.
- Binding or Preload: If a sway bar has preload (unequal tension adjusted in the links while the car is on the ground), it can ARTIFICIALLY force one corner down at static ride height, though it UNLOADS DYNAMICALLY once the car moves.
- Roll Center Interaction: The chassis roll center and suspension geometry can create dynamic forces that push the left front down as the chassis dives or rises under braking and turning, independent of the bar itself; why I use a 1 inch bar with gap or none at all, hence running less wedge helps this and my roll center placement and movement is linear and only rises and returns in very minimal amounts and zero lateral movement.
- Brake Dive (Entry): If the driver is still on the brakes hard at entry, the nose dives. This compresses both front corners, but as the car begins to yaw and roll left, the right front compresses more, potentially changing the reactive load on the left front bar arm.
In order for a bar to work it works AGAINST the left front tire. You all think when you preload the bar statically you are loading both tires, once on track and physics shows up that left front is off the surface which with today's set ups they lift real early and coast the bottom and cannot be back on throttle till the car is off the turn and straight.
